Medicare Supplemental Insurance
Medicare Supplemental, also known as Medigap, is a Health Insurance Plan which is sold by private companies that are authorized to sell Medicare Insurance. Medicare Supplemental is designed to help cover out of pocket expenses which are not covered by Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage. Some of the costs that Medicare Supplemental helps cover include coinsurance, copayments, deductibles, hospital visit costs, nursing facilities, and more. These are all options that are not completely covered under Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage. The Plans provided under Medicare Supplemental include Plan A-Plan N.
How does Medicare Supplemental work?
With a Medicare Supplement plan, you pay a premium every month in which your plan pays for the remaining out of pocket expenses which Medicare does not cover.
Ex: If you go to a doctor’s appointment and the bill is sent to Medicare, they will cover 80% of the fees which are promised. Now, depending on the Medicare Supplement Plan you have, your coverage will kick in and either cover a portion of the remainder or all of it.
Who is eligible for Medicare Supplemental?
If a person is already covered under Medicare Part A and B, they are automatically eligible for Medicare Supplemental (Medigap).
